On Sept 27 2019, multiple shots were fired at a townhouse in Brampton. Around 12:00 a.m. a report of loud bangs was reported from Balmoral Drive. At 1:54 a.m. the victim came home to find a bullet hole inside their residence however there were no injuries.
According to Cst. Sarah Patten from Peel Regional police the complaint was a 24-year-old female. The suspects are described as four males who were wearing dark clothing and hoodies and armed with multiple handguns. They were seen through video surveillance leaving the Balmoral area around 12:00 a.m. in a newer model Indigo Blue Dodge Caravan.
Peel Regional Police was able to provide a description and image of the vehicle through surveillance footage they obtained. Cst Bancroft Wrght said “it’s a pretty frequent thing these days for residents and business to have surveillance footage and that helps a lot in our investigation. To be able to compile and gather surveillance footage from the area is what lead us to putting that image of the vehicles out.” According to Cst Wrght the vehicle has not been located.
Peel Regional Police have not determined which type of handgun was used however there were up to 17 shell casings were located, 12 of the rounds struck the rear of the house and neighbouring property. Cst Wright said “there were 17 shell casings found based on that forensics would determine which callable and which weapon or weapons were used.” Once the shell casings have been examined by forensics according to Cst Wright they will be able to go through archives of past crimes that have been committed and see if the weapons have been linked to any other crimes. It hasn’t been
determined if this is a targeted shooting or not. Cst. Patten said it’s not uncommon to get reports of shootings from all areas sometimes it’s actual shots that has been fired other times it’s fire crackers.
According to Cst. Patten in order to protect themselves and take precautions people should make sure they have a cell phone on them, if you see anything around you contact 911, make sure you always walk with a group, always follow your gut feelings and don’t attend areas that make you uncomfortable, , make sure you go to known places such as places that have been recommended from people you trust
